Captain Rick has spent lots of time tournament fishing Lake Okeechobee picking up essential patterns to put you on quality fish.

Randy and Tanner came out to explore what Lake Okeechobee had to offer. It was a beautiful day with light winds. The conditions were perfect for a smack down and amazing fishing experience. They were visiting Florida and had to get out fishing when they had the chance. These late summer months propose a great time to go fishing especially in the early morning. Clewiston Bass Fishing has been amazing this time of year!

Most of the bass were staging and holding around and in open water. Hydrilla was the key structure that allowed for a great bite. When you find these structures you can either fish wild caught live shiners or artificial baits. If you want to throw artificial baits, Captain Rick would recommend throwing rattle traps. They were quite successful on this fishing trip.

The bass were schooling and chasing bait. It posed a perfect opportunity for Randy and Tanner to land some great numbers. They landed 30 Florida largemouth bass on artificial and live wild caught shiners. The average bass weighed between 2-3 pounds and the biggest weighed in at 4 pounds. You really can’t beat the action here on Lake Okeechobee.

Shortly after this awesome fishing charter, Captain Rick had the pleasure of fishing with Mike, his father Gary and his son Collin and friend Drew. It was a loaded boat and they were ready to slam some quality Lake Okeechobee largemouth bass on their two day fishing adventure. They have been planning this trip for quite some time and really wanted to get Collin a big fish. It was a two day bass fishing adventure and they got what they came for.

The fishing conditions were different from the last fishing trip. This time there was little to no wind but the early morning bite was still on. If you are looking to capitalize on a bass early in the morning, make sure you start throwing top water artificial baits. After this bite slowed down a bit, this group of fisherman switched over to shiners. They focused in on swim baits on top of the grass, top waters, rattle traps and slow moving plastics.

When the shiners hit the water, it was game on! Colin caught his first big fish on the first cast. It weighed in at 4.5 pounds. Just shortly after this fish came his personal best bass. That fish weighed in at 5 pounds. You can expect Lake Okeechobee to produce when you come fishing here whether out of the south end or north end. Along with those big bass, they caught 22 bass on both shiners and artificial baits. Spraying of grass caused a slower fishing bite than normal.

Lake Okeechobee is clear of algae. Many still may be hearing news about water clarity but we want to let you know that Lake Okeechobee is clear and the algae has dissipated. When you come fishing on the Big O, you can expect clear water and great fishing.

Captain Rick is looking forward to fishing with these families and friends again in the future! Don’t miss out on your adventure next time visiting Florida. You are sure to have a great experience catching the bass of your dreams.
