We always say we will write reviews for places and never do. This one is much needed, we booked a 4 hour Bass trip in middle of August 2016, and ended up with an amazing guide, Capt. Mike Groshon. It started with a check in phone call the day before which was very informative and helpful. In the morning we met Capt. Mike and couldn't of been any happier with the turnout. He was professional yet personable and it truly exceeded our expectations. We had fished many times before but never on a bass boat. He was there to help when we needed and to stand by and watch when we doing what we already knew. Both of us learned so much from him. I can't thank him enough for being our guide and giving us an adventure we will never forget. Over a dozen fish were caught and we left feeling like our money was well spent. Highly recommend!”

Went to Florida specifically to fish the Big O. Booked a trip on the south side and the north side on purpose. Capt Mike got the call for the north side trip. It was cool that he is from Northern Virginia and that's where I was coming from. We had a rough day with the conditions seeming to change every 1/2 hour. The fish were not committing to anything no matter what we thru but Mike stayed out with me until we put a bass on the boat. He went above and beyond to make sure we put at least one bass on the boat and that was greatly appreciated!!!! He didn't have to do that but I truly believe that he was taking it personally! I plan to do it again soon and will be looking for Mike to be my guide again!!!!”

Me, a buddy, and Brian Brown, a local professional fishing guide. Windy and cold but two five pound largemouths, five smaller, and a couple of mud fish and we thought it was a pretty decent day. Brian is a real pro and knows a lot about Lake O and about how fish move and into what areas and under what conditions. A guy named Eddie, a guide who operates out of Garrards...stay away! Too obese to be taking people into open water, raggedy boat, lousy attitude. Brian works his tail off for you, is very personable, and very VERY truthful. Most of these guides carry too much BS about "what happened yesterday" but I didn't hear that from Brian. We intend to use him again. Guide fishing is expensive but Brian's rates are at, or below, the average. One guide fishes when he's after a trophy bass. I do a lot of artificial baits by myself or with friends but occasionally we hunt for something we can replicate on our wall. (It's all catch and release; or should be). And please understand ... live, wild shiners are apparently made of gold! Garrards' wild shiners are about $6-7.00 less per dozen than Roland Martin's.”

“3 of us fished with Dave Lauer at Lake Okeechobee, met at Slim’s Marina for bait and launched at the boat ramp nearby. We were in the boat leaving the boat ramp at the crack of dawn and we fished all morning and caught a lot of fish. So many, we lost track of the count. Each of us caught at least one bass over 4 lbs, one of us caught one about 5 lbs and all of us caught at least 6-8 bass and several channel catfish. We caught fish nearly non-stop and really didn’t have time to eat lunch. Fishing with Dave was like fishing with a family friend, he was comfortable to fish with, funny and he really put us on the fish. Any time I’m bass fishing near Okeechobee Dave Lauer is the only guy I’ll go with. He’s a confident pro and knows bass. All of us said his was our best day of fishing- ever. Here’s one the the biggest bass my son caught. What a day!!””

I booked a fishing guide for a 6 hour fishing trip, out of Roland Martin's. My son and grandson accompanied me. The guide, Justin I believe advised I purchase 6 or 7 dozen minnows, I hesitently opted for 6 dozen, 72 minnows. He then asked if I could follow him 12 miles to a different launch for much better fishing. We arrived and it was 21 miles not 12. We put in at 7 25 a.m.. We fished the first spot until 9:30 or so, caught a few small bass missed a few and caught some junk. We then moved to a second spot and fished until 10:45 We caught 1 bass and ran out of bait???? . We were out of the boat by 11:00. A very very short six hrs. We could have purchased more bait at a Slim's fish camp, 2 mins from the landing and very near by, or in the least used artificial bait for the balance of our 6 hrs. But we were not offered either option. Instead our guide, left in his boat with no bait or tackel? He said to practice for his weekend tournament? Or I suspect due to his big hurry to leave in his boat he was more likely going to pick up another "sport" at a near by launch? But that is just a hunch. A Very disappointing short 6 HOUR FISHING GUIDE EXPERIENCE. I would not recommend this GUIDE. The room at Roland Martin's was fine . The staff in the store helpful and professional. If you go ask a lot of questions especially how long is your 6 hrs? I regret that I tipped at all and it was solely out of habit.”
